What to Expect at Your First Visit to Keller Family Dental
Once you arrive at the office, one of our hygienist will begin by taking digital x-rays. We take two types of x-rays; a panaromic and bitewings.
- The panoramic x-ray shows a broad view of the jaws, teeth, sinuses, nasal area, and jaw joints. These x-rays do not find cavities. They do show problems such as impacted teeth, bone abnormalities, cysts, solid growths (tumors), infections, and fractures.
- The bitewing x-rays are used to check for decay between the teeth. They show the upper and lower back teeth and how the teeth touch each other in a single view. They can also show bone loss for patients that have periodontal disease (gum disease) or if a dental infection is present.
After the x-rays are completed, you can expect that your hygienist will perform a complete dental charting of your mouth. After you charting is complete, your hygienist will conduct a cleaning, and then Dr. Myser will do his full examination.
In some circumstances, we cannot perform a dental cleaning on your first visit. That is usually due to some form of periodontal disease that will require a more in depth dental cleaning called scaling and root planning. You can usually expect your first dental visit to take one hour, in some cases, it can take longer!
We look forward to seeing you!!!
